Modernization: Involves extracting specific business functionality and making it available using certain standards, so that it could be used by other applications or newer processes. In this technique, legacy systems largely remain untouched. Renewed legacy systems and newly developed functionality can then be integrated to work together in new ways through Business Process Management (BPM) on the strength of SOA architecture foundation. It is also possible to selectively and progressively replace functionality of the legacy systems with newer systems or interfaces.
